Animal shelters and rescues seem to always be in the fundraising mode. It’s part of the job description.
One of the more successful fundraisers is just two years old, this year.
Levi Leipheimer’s King Ridge Gran Fondo will be held on Sunday, October 9th. It has raised thousands of dollars for the Forget Me Not Farm a haven for children and animals to bond and break the cycle of abuse. Since its inception in 1992, Forget Me Not Farm has helped thousands of at-risk children and youth break the cycle of abuse. Located on the grounds of the Sonoma Humane Society, the Farm offers animal-assisted and horticultural therapeutic activities that provide a haven for children, plants and animals to bond, learn and heal with one another.
This dog trainer has been walking the dogs early, then putting on the sausage pants and hitting the roads to train for the medio fondo. We are being joined on the venture by several former puppy raisers from Canine Companions for Independence, who too, are commited to the role animals play in our lives.
The medio is 65 miles of up and down Sonoma County. Oh boy!
If you keep a soft space in the heart for the miracles animals can do, then hop on the bike and ride. There are still slots available for the 30 mile, Piccolo distance.
