A series of classes wrapped up this week at the Sonoma Humane Society in Santa Rosa. After more than 12 weeks of almost weekly sessions with a dozen people and their dogs, friendships develop. People start to share more than puppy mischief stories and the dogs certainly become more familiar. (Full disclosure; I teach part time at Sonoma Humane.)
So it was with great humor that at the end of the latest meeting, we spent the night teaching the dogs important behaviors like; shake, (important in the business world), roll over, (important in the business world too) and high five (important in the business and sports worlds.)
I had many of these clients with me from beginning puppy stage. To see their dogs blossom into thinking and mannered pets is a delight. But the bigger delight is meeting committed and loving owners.
After class conversations wended from Shakespeare Festivals to Levi Leipheimer’s Gran Fondo, coming up October 3rd. A portion of the proceeds will go to the “Forget Me Not” Farm. Much to my delight and without previously knowing, some of my clients will be participating in the Piccolo ride. We moved from dog stories to cycling stories.
We shared our nervousness about fitting in the training, getting to the start line on time and yes, what to do about our dogs while we are out cycling around the county.
We also shared how wonderful and lucky we are to live in Sonoma County, participate in a world class event and have animals benefit.
Cool or what?
