Stevie Nix when she first was rescued.

After two weeks of treatment.
As promised, I am tracking the progress of those horribly neglected dogs and cats taken from a south Santa Rosa home a few weeks ago.
I ran into Eva Quiroz yesterday. With a big smile on her face she proclaimed that all the dogs are, “Doing well and growing hair.” Quiroz says the cream-colored chihuahua mix, she named Stevie Nix, loves to be cuddled and take walks. Stevie (pictured) was the sickest of the dogs. She was diagnosed with Sarcoptic and Demodex mange, bacterial skin infections and a fungal yeast infection.
The dogs all still require daily medication, regular medicated baths and their bedding must be changed every day. Quiroz suits up and puts on gloves several times a day to provide the treatments. The medications are being provided by the Sonoma Humane Society.
Quiroz says she enjoys taking the dogs out for little walks and setting up their pen in the sun so they can play on the grass and be and do dog things, like chasing potato bugs and being petted.
And the dogs are no longer nameless waifs. Quiroz’s love for old rock and roll is showing through by naming the dogs, Stevie Nix, Jerry Garcia and Carlos Santana.
They should be up for adoption late next month. Already some of the cats she rescued are available for adoption at the Sonoma Humane Society.
An animal cruelty/neglect investigation is ongoing.
