The Golden Gate Basset Hound rescue is off to get 50 dogs from a Red Bluff breeding operation that got in over its head with too many dogs and not enough money to care for them.
Addy Dawes of Golden Gate Basset Hound Rescue in Petaluma says they are glad to help out the breeder, but the shoestring rescue is worried about expenses and making sure the rescued dogs get the help they need.
Dawes says it will take about $400 per dog to complete all the medical checks they likely will need and that is only if none of the dogs has more pressing medical issues. The dogs have been sitting in outdoor runs so Dawes says they are mostly worried about heart worm infections.
Before representatives from Golden Gate Basset Rescue get the dogs, they would like to have at least 50 foster homes set up. They have 20 so far.
Golden Gate Basset Hound Rescue is accepting donations, potential foster homes and eventually, permanent homes for the rescued dogs.
