As promised, here is an update on the Great Dane puppy brought to Petaluma Animal Services with severe leg trauma a few weeks ago.
Kathy Sousa, the shelter manager says the puppy, now named Harvey, is thriving.
“After spending two days with me (love him- he’s wonderful! He loves to lounge on beds- completely spread out!) and having daily vet visits and bandage changes, he then went to Big Dog Rescue. They are continuing his vet care, and they’ve found a wonderful home for him, where he’ll live with two other Great Danes and a great family with kids. His prognosis is good, but it will be a lengthy recovery. I can’t even fathom his fate if he hadn’t come to us- he’s so sweet, and so gentle; he’d play-bow to my dogs, and he wanted to play with my cats. (They weren’t quite sure what that thing was with the big blue dress on, loping after them!) I don’t know what the man’s involvement was who brought him to us, but I am grateful that he did,” says Sousa.
The puppy was brought to the shelter by a man, who gave a false address and name to shelter officials.
“His story is another collaboration of effort, as is usually the case with animal abuse or neglect. I want to thank Central Animal Hospital for dropping everything and caring for him, Animal Care Center for their help, Blue Sky Vet Hospital, and Big Dog Rescue for their efforts in his continued foster care and finding Harvey his new home,” says Sousa.
