As the war on puppymills rages on, it's important to remember why they still exist. If people stopped buying from them, they would disappear. Shows like this do much to bring attention to the problem and educating people will do much to help. But in the end, there are still people who will buy pets without thoroughly researching where those animals come from. Unfortunately, the latest trend of "designer dogs" is a puppy miller's dream. Breed dogs of different lineage and make up a cute name...then you can make even more money. Meanwhile, beautiful dogs of mixed breed lineage languish in shelters. It's so sad.
I think that all we can do is keep fighting.

Pit bulls are the choice of dog fighters because they are the best at quickly fighting and quickly doing much damage. Why would anyone who truly loves dogs and cares about all dog welfare wish to continue making more dog aggressive dogs, AND dogs that have the abilitiies and instincts to maul and kill?

Is there any breed trait that we should want to dissappear more than dog aggression? Every pit bull website states that dog aggression is common in pit bulls, at least to some degree. Look at the pits at shelters; each needs a separate run, unless the pound wants to have dog fights. Everyone/ all dogs suffer when we have dog aggression in our communities. Although pit bull promoters like to have the adoration of their pits, that doesn't justify the immense suffering that surrounds the fighting dog types. Most pits will not attack, but when one does, it probably won't give warning first. Let them mercifully become extinct, gradually, via free mandatory spay/neuter microchipping. Unless you hope that dog fighting will again be legal, everybody wins.

My son and his 6 month old Am Staff drove all the way to Dillon's Beach from Placerville, on Saturday only to see the sign banning all Pit Bulls. Really? Did it say to ban stupid people, dumb blondes, Africans and alcoholics? I don't think so! Dogs can be bad- let's face the truth here. Any dog ( despite breed) can react and have a problem with another animal. Pit Bulls are no exception. I happen to be the owner of 8 pit bulls with my veterinarian husband. Did I say Veterinarian? Gee! Our dogs play with the grandchildren and snore in our beds. Let's focus on the "bad" owners for awhile. Or forever for a change. Please educate yourself/open your mind and hearts and life will be a better place for all of us.

I was confused by a few things missing from the movie:
1. Why wasn't Laura Amato's website promoted in the film? Immediately after watching it I got online, intending to send her some money to fund her efforts but had difficulties find it.
2. I would have liked the filmmakers to research why the AKC doesn't take steps to curtail puppy mills. If they denied puppy mills registration that might devalue the dogs making them less profitable to pet stores. I'm sure the short answer would have been "because they want the money" but at least put the spotlight on them.
3. I've seen those Discovery Channel Animal Cop shows have cops arresting/citing people for far less grievances that the severe conditions in the puppy mills - how does that work?

Oh how very nice of the city council to agree to follow California state law. (It mandates access for service dogs in training).

Wow, way to miss the point. Several hundred words on service does and not one of them is "disability" or "disabled". And no matter how well-trained a dog is, it cannot be a service dog unless its owner is disabled. The mere fact that a dog may be "of service" doesn't cut it.

I'm really sort of boggled that you seem to think it's OK for people to fake that their dog's a service dog just as long as it's well-behaved enough to pass. It's not.

I think this is a great idea! About 10 years ago my aunt and I adopted a 9 year old Pomeranian, and he was a wonderful dog. He had not been treated well, but with lots of love and some patience he came around, and was so much fun. We had him for about 4 years, and still miss him. Hopefully someone will take this dog and cherish him also. I would, but I now have two small shelter dogs who are scared of large dogs. Thank you for helping!

Please keep us updated if Jack gets adopted. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I didn't already have two, one of whom hates most other dogs. *sigh* Keep up the good work.
